PassCard

Description: Hi there,

In this script we propose a simple scheme that allows Windows CardSpace to be used as a password manager, thereby improving the usability and security of password use as well as potentially encouraging CardSpace adoption. Usernames and passwords are stored in personal cards, and these cards can be used to sign on transparently to corresponding websites. The scheme, called 'PassCard', does not require any changes to login servers or to the CardSpace identity selector and, in particular, it does not require websites to support CardSpace. Both http and https-enhanced websites are supported.
We published a paper, titled 'Using CardSpace as a Password Manager'
(visit http://www.oman4ever.org/Publications/PassCard_IDman2010.pdf)
in which we describe how the scheme operates, and give details of a proof-of-concept prototype. Security and usability analyses are also provided.

Polite notes:
- Please note that the AES encryption/decryption 256-bit key is in the JavaScript file itself. Please feel free to choose it to your own key (e.g. try the function makeKey() inside the user script).
- Please note that you can view the source code (including the crypto key) simply by right-clicking on the webpage.
- Please note that PassCard is provided as is without any warranty explicit or implicit.
- Please note that this is my first EVER open source project, so please excuse my naivety.

Finally, your comments are most welcome. Please report websites that do not work with PassCard, and I’d be happy to *try* to fix them should knowledge and time allow (of course this may take years, so please bear with me!).

Kind regards, and I hope you have fun using PassCard!

Isn't this what PassCard is intended for anyway? The only place I ever use it is for logging into my OpenID at www.myopenid.com.

Instead of passwords, <href src="http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480189.aspx">CardSpace</href> submits digital cards (InfoCards) to websites.
